King Arthur and Lady Guinevere in Shropshire

King Arthur and the Lady Guinevere, say the locals, were actually born, lived and died in Shropshire. Perfectly sane academics make the case that the real King Arthur was actually king of the Votadini tribe. They did their pillaging and what-not around the roman city of Viroconium, now modern day Wroxeter a few miles from Shrewsbury.

He married a local lass, the Lady Guinevere (or Ganhumara to give her her correct name). She came from Oswestry where her father was a local big-wig and had his HQ at Oswestry Hill Fort.

Although there is no record of where they held their wedding or even the reception, it is safe to assume that it was somewhere around here.

The tradition continues today - as it appears that many couples still find that Shropshire's romantic landscapes, stately homes, fine hotels and suchlike give their nuptials a legendary quality too.

You may find a short break in Shropshire a perfect occasion to pop the question and look for your ideal wedding venue at the same time.
